Transcript of Alzheimer’s MDchat

Last night was a wonderful time on MDchat. We had the opportunity to hear the stories of Libby Embry and Gwen Richards who were diagnosed with Younger-onset Alzheimer’s.

I had the pleasure of moderating the chat with the help of Paul Moniz of Albert Einstein College of Medicine Yeshiva University (@EinsteinMed) and Alzheimer’s Association tweeting with Gwen and Libby.

Although there were some technical difficulties with Gwen’s account, the essence of these two women’s stories came through well. I’ll be taking a review of the chat and post thoughts. When looking at the transcript, please note that Niles Frantz of Alzheimer’s Association was tweeting with Libby on his account (@njfrantz)

Mike Sevilla (@doctoranonymous) posted a review of the chat shortly after its completion. Check it out here.

Here is the transcript:

MDchat On Alzheimer’s Transcript for January 25, 2011

We all hope that we’ll see more of these kinds of chats – where we get to hear the stories of people (not “patients”). It’s been all too easy for people to become “patients” – when that happens, we run the risk of depersonalizing care.

If you attended the chat, please feel free to add comments here or continue the conversation over on MDchat’s blog or the hashtag #MDchat.
